At most driving schools, the primary focus is on teaching students the fundamental rules of the road and how to operate a vehicle. Here at Bacon Brothers, we certainly cover these essentials as well, but we go a step further by emphasizing the importance of situational awareness. So, what exactly is situational awareness? It’s the ability to identify potential hazards on the road and proactively plan how to handle them before they escalate into dangerous situations. This skill sets our students apart, equipping them to drive not just safely, but confidently.

Thanks to the extensive experience of our instructors, we offer students a unique law enforcement perspective on their driving habits. We teach them to identify common mistakes made by other drivers and explain why avoiding these errors is crucial. This approach not only helps students refine their own driving skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of safe and responsible driving practices.

In Florida, new drivers are required to complete 50 hours of supervised driving, in addition to the time spent driving as part of a driver’s education course. Supervised driving means having a licensed driver seated in the front passenger seat beside the learner. Acceptable supervising drivers include certified driving instructors, parents, guardians, or other qualified individuals. To qualify as a supervising driver in Florida, the person must meet one of the following criteria:

Be a certified driving instructor.
Be a licensed family member who is at least 21 years old.
Be a spouse who is at least 21 years old.

Of the 50 required hours, at least 10 must be completed during nighttime driving. To help track progress, the state provides a supervised driving practice log that can be used to record driving hours.

At Bacon Brothers, we concentrate on practical situations. The student will be introduced to navigation through GPS, basic operations of electronics within the vehicle, interactions with law enforcement, and common everyday occurrences such as parking lots, drive-throughs, and gas stations.
