Effective July 1, 2025, Florida teens aged 15–17 must complete a state-approved Driver’s Education course before obtaining a learner’s permit. This replaces the previous 4-hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) requirement. The new 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course must meet updated state standards.
